Squirio reserves warning treatment for information that needs attention. Color supports the message, while words and numbers explain the actual condition.
Use urgency only when the situation is urgent
Overspending and unusual amounts matter, but alarm-red surfaces can make routine review feel punitive. Squirio uses a restrained warning color and direct labels such as “over budget” or “unusual amount.”
Show why the warning appeared
A percentage alone is ambiguous. Budget status includes the amount spent, amount remaining, and progress through the current period. An unusual transaction shows the typical amount that triggered the comparison.
The user keeps control. A warning asks for review; it does not silently block or change a transaction.
Never rely on color alone
Every state has a text label and sufficient contrast in both themes. Icons are supplemental, focus remains visible, and reduced-motion preferences remove decorative transitions.
